Life Is Just “Too Much”

Every change, every obstacle, every stress… EVERYTHING is overwhelming.

Your mind never stops:

                Ruminating on the past.

                Dreading the future.

Scanning every imaginable outcome for danger.

Your body clenches and aches.

You’re torn:

Between the need to do everything…

And the impulse to do nothing at all.

You want to trust and connect with others, but you’re scared they’ll hurt or abandon you.

You FEEL the Stagnancy

It’s in your head.

And it’s in your body, too.

When the trauma happened, it froze you in time.

And you’ve been trying to break free ever since.

I Know Those Chains All Too Well

The guilt.

The anxiety.

Always feeling like “too much” and “not enough” at the same time.

Trapped in destructive patterns you can’t break, no matter how hard you try.

I’ve broken those chains… and I can help you break yours.

You’ve Suffered Enough

You can loosen the shackles of guilt, shame, and isolation.

You can lay down the armor and breathe deeply again.

It won’t be pretty. It won’t be easy. But it is worth it.

You are worth it.

You deserve to be yourself.

The Next Chapter of Your Life Is Waiting

Your past doesn’t have to define you.

You can break the patterns.

You can heal and be well in this life.

You deserve this time and space to heal.

What is Somatic Therapy?

Contrary to what many believe, your mind and body are intertwined. You are not two parts sharing space, you are a single whole person. A disruption in one aspect affects the whole, and correcting or adjusting one of those aspects can provide relief in others.

A heart heavy with grief. Breath racing with anxiety or panic. A sleepless night wrecking your focus the next day. These are examples of our intertwined, holistic self.

Somatic therapy focuses on how the mind and body are connected, and how those connections affect each other. If your physical health is impaired, your mind is too occupied with that to maintain stability, leaving you no space for your mental health. Alternatively, if your mental health is struggling, it can manifest as any number of physical symptoms.

Trauma, especially, will manifest as bodily issues. The weight of trauma is so enormous that your mind alone can’t bear it, so it spreads the load, which causes you to experience aches, pains, and other disordered sensations in your body.

Somatic therapy addresses how your various aspects are impacting each other. We will develop a treatment plan to focus on multiple symptoms and causes. Naturally, as a therapist, my primary concern in your mental health – but if you’re not sleeping well enough, or dealing with chronic pain, then you’re too preoccupied with these immediate issues to truly focus on your mental health.

A very common trauma response is burying your emotions. They are so heavy, so overwhelming, so chaotic, that you slide them off the table to fall on the floor. You forget how to feel, and you forget how to describe what you’re feeling. But your emotions never truly leave. They bury themselves in your body, marking their presence as tightness, jitteriness, aches, muscle twitches, reflexive movements, to name a few examples. If you’ve had to bury your emotions to survive, especially for extended periods of time, then by addressing your body, we can start integrating your feelings back into your life.

Given their interconnected nature, treating one may very well alleviate the other. We won’t know until we try.

You’ve carried that load alone for long enough. Let me take your hand, hold just a little of the burden, and guide you forward.
